CHARLOTTE — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a deadly attack that began at a man’s apartment and ended with him being hit by a car nearly a mile away.
Jeremy Mouzon, 44, died early Sunday morning, not long after police found him at the intersection of East Sugar Creek and North Davidson Street in north Charlotte.
He was stabbed multiple times and hit by a car.
The violence started at Mouzon’s apartment less than a mile away along Terrybrook Lane near Garinger High School in west Charlotte.
Mouzon’s sister said Monday that she, along with neighbors, want answers.
Police believe he was attacked at his apartment.
“I woke up early and I saw a bunch of police cars out here, and I was wondering what was going on,” said neighbor Jennie Johnson said.
She was stunned to learn about his death.
“He was a very nice guy,” Johnson said. “He always spoke with respect. He didn’t act like anyone would harm him for nothing.”
Mouzon’s sister said he was stabbed 13 times.
That crime happened at his apartment on Terrybrook Lane, according to a police report.
Channel 9 was at the scene Monday and saw workers wearing personal protective equipment cleaning the scene.
Officers said several suspects broke into Mouzon’s home and attacked him.
However, the body was found along East Sugar Creek Road and Redwood Avenue, hit by a car that didn’t stay at the scene.
MEDIC arrived and realized he had been stabbed so paramedics called the police to assist.
At the intersection, there was a work truck with its passenger window busted out and crime scene technicians placing several evidence markers.
“It’s crazy. It’s real crazy,” the neighbor said.
At Mouzon’s apartment, neighbors want to learn more knowing no arrests have been made.
“Somebody needs to pay for his death,” Johnson said.
She said she is getting security cameras for her place because she just feels uneasy.
“Now, we did see this sign here saying this place has security cameras 24/7, but we haven’t seen any out here on the buildings,” Johnson said.
No additional details have been made available.
